Description
Tested and still working January 10, 2021, (2 photos above taken with the fan running)this vintage WORKING Robbins Myers 3-speed fan, model 22004A, was made in Memphis, TN, sometime between 1946 and 1983, so may well be an antique. Although it has a touch of art deco styling, seller guesses it was made circa 1955, and although he has owned it since July 2008 (his purchase dated on bottom), he has used it little.
In any case, it is a warrior, or perhaps beast is the better term!
The fan weighs close to 18 ½ pounds, stands 20” tall, and boasts a blade guard cage that measures 18” across. Because of its weight and construction, its 4 blades spin really very quietly on either low, medium, or high setting, drawing about 150 watts in operation. The fan housing is black—but if you look closely, you’ll see that it and fan blade are speckled, on their upper surfaces only, and so neatly and uniformly that it appears intentionally done, with white paint specks fallen on it from some long ago ceiling paint job! With respect to condition issues, the
ungrounded
2-prong plug and cord from wall to base have been replaced and are not original, while the original cloth-insulated cord that runs from the base to the fan motor has about 1 inch of electrical tape over a fray in the cord (see photograph close to motor housing) so it too should prbably be replaced. The oscillation mechanism to turn the housing from side to side in operation does not work even as its shaft does turn. There is some dulling of the paint that would likely shine up with wax or furniture polish, and some grime in crevices. Angle of fan head may be adjusted with a wingnut on the base, fan pushes a great volume of air, and seller believes the separate mounting plate on the bottom could have been used to attach the fan to a mating ceiling mount (not included). Finally,
seller advises against use in a house with small children or inquisitive pets
,
since the fan
blades do not have a modern protective enclosure.
Please see my photographs as they complete the description of this sturdy and plainly durable fan. Note that fan would require a minimum 22” by 20” by 16” box for shipping, probably at a packed weight of 25 pounds, and thus will NOT be shipped, meaning LOCAL PICKUP only.
